Catch 22, pgs. 251-339
Now that I am really into my book, it's getting sad due to a few events and sorry that this is long; The chaplain is feeling horrible and losing his faith in God, while soldiers intemidate him. He keeps questioning his religious visions, including the naked man in the tree at Snowden's funneral (take note that it's Yossarian). He has nightmares of his family dying. Yossarian gets wounded on a bomb run and is rushed to the hospital. There, Dunbar and Yossarian switch bed and identities for some odd reason. I guess to have fun? Anyways, while there, he flirts with Nurse Duckett, in ways that I can't say (this is sensored!!) and gets into trouble. He claims insanity and that he dreams of a fish. A psychiatrist visits him and talk to Yo more about his problems. Sanderson, the psychiatrists decides that Yo is crazy and should be sent home. (Yo is Yossarian , for those who are lost, I get tired of typing his name). Because of switching beds, another guy, Fortiori, is sent home instead. Yossarian returns back to camp and tries to get grounded by Doc Daneeka, saying he's insane. Of course, Doc refuses. Yo goes to Dobbs, saying they should kill Cathcart now, but refuses because Dobbs got all his missions in. Orr, Yo's roomate, and who always crashes in his missions, tells Yo that he should fly with him for practice incase he was ever to crash. Here's where it gets sad. Orr points out that he knows that Yo asked not to fly with him. They finish up there evening talk about girls and whatnot. The next mission, Orr crashes and disappears.
On a bomb run, McWatt scares Yo by pulling daredevil stunts and Yo threatens to kill him. McWatt doesn't hold the grudge and they become buddies again later on. Yo starts seeing Nurse Duckett, who he "flirted" with. While on the beach, Yo begins to think about all the lost and dead people at sea, including Orr and Clevinger. Later, one day, McWatt is playing stunts again adn flies to close to the beach. One of the planes propellers slices a guy in half, Kid Sampson. McWatt refused to land and killed himself by flying into a mountain. Cathcart is upset and raises the missions to sixty-five. Then later finds out that Doc was in that plane and raises the missions to seventy. But really, Doc was never on the plane, but they send out a letter anyways to inform his wife and she is shattered. Meanwhile, Doc gets blammed for the rise of missions. Orr never returns, so Yo gets four new roomates who are young and wild. On Thanksgiving, some men get drunk and start firing the gun machines. Yo gets mad and gets his gun and is determined to kill them all. Nately tries to stop him and Yo breaks his nose. Feeling bad, he finds his friend in the hospital and pleds he's sorry. The Soldier-in-White returns, who was in the beginning of the book and was suppose to be dead. Nurse Duckett, who gets married to a doctor, warns Yo that she heard someone talking about makeing Dunbar "disappear". Yo runs to warn his friend and he can't find him.
Wow, that was a lot to put out, I'm so sorry. I did try to cut out as much as needed. Well, I a m loving this book. I am anxious to know what happened to Dunbar and why he would just "disappear". I also think Yossarian is getting less crazy and more mature, in a way. The only thing is that he is still sleeping around with everyone. But there was a part in the book where he is observing his new roomates and is disgusted by their behavior and wants to smack them for the stunts they pull. I think it's hillarious!! I also feel sorry for Doc. His wife ends up moving away, because she kept getting the same letter, saying he is dead, while Doc is really trying to write to her.
