Catch 22- Week 6

Catch 22, pgs 340-415

Alright, this is probably going to be the longest blog that I've ever made, so I apologize. A lot of events have happened from where we have left off and some is shocking. Well, to me anyways. Where we left off, Yossarian just learned that his buddy Dunbar had been "disappeared". Meanwhile, if you recall Chief White Halfoat who throught out the whole book, thought he was dying of pneumonia. Well, he finally does. Nately has finished his number of missions and won't go home without his whore, who finally realizes that she is in love with him, finally! Milo decides he wants to fly missions instead of being the mess officer, but Cathcart turns him down and tells him that he will just raise the number of missions and let others fly them for Milo. Now they are required to fly eighty. The next morning, the alarms go off and many, including Dobbs and Nately, lost their lives in the mission. The next bad thing; General Greedle gets replaced by General Peckem, who is now the wing commander and a jerk. Scheisokopf, who is the guy that is obsessed with parades, is promoted to commanding officer of all combat missions.

I believe that Yo has officially gone insane when he refuses to fly anymore missions and marches backwards, so nobody will sneak up on him, while carrying his gun. Cathcart and Corn decides that he probably needs a break for losing a friend and gives him a mini vacation and goes to Rome. While there, Yo tells Nately's whore that Nately died and she tries to kill him. Oh, and her kid-sister, or maybe it's her kid, at the apartment. While being in Rome and returning to camp, the whore follows him everywhere, trying to kill him. Coming back to his stationed camp, he still refuses to fly missions and men from everywhere are sneaking up on him and asking if the rumors are true. That he won't fly anymore missions. The majority of them are proud of him for doing so. Then Yo learns that the apartment that Nately's whore and kid were in was demolished and he goes back to Rome to find them. He never finds them and walks the streets of Rome and learns a lesson. I believe, here, in this part of the book, Yo sees how the world really is. He witnesses a woman gettting raped, a little boy getting beaten, adn hungry people. I think this puts a little pitty in his heart for others, other than worrying about his own life, like he has in the whole book. When he goes back to the hotel room, M.P's drop in and arrest him for being in Rome without a pass. There, he also witnesses Aarfy rapping and killing a maid, but gets away with it.

Cathcart and Corn want to send Yo home, but Catch 22 permits it, so they make a deal with him. Yo will be aloud to go home if he does one thing; if he agrees to like Cathcart and Corn. All Yo has to do is support the colonels and he will be promoted from captain to major. Yo takes the deal, not worrying about the lives of his friends and what he is leaving for everybody else to deal with behind. Outside, Nately's whore is disguised as a private and stabs him until he falls unconscious. In the hospital, Yo is visited by Aarfy and the chaplain. He also remembers at odd times being in the hospital, this random guy that keeps coming up to him, mainly while grifting to sleep, and says, "we've got you pal." Later, whime chating with chaplain, he finds out that Hungry Joe died in his sleep. Then he remembers Snowdens death, which has been with him a lot in this book, and it explains the whole scene, which made me sick. Yo thinks to himself that man is matter and without spirit, they will rot like garbage.
Still in the hospital, Yo tries to explain to Danby that he will no tgo with the deal he made an run away and tells the chaplain as well. Danby believes there is no hope. Then the chaplain bursts in with exciting news; remember Orr? Well, he was discovered to have washed up the shore in Sweaden. Yo realizes that Orr was crashing all this time on purpose; to run away! Yo decides that there is hope after all. He then tells the chaplain and Danby to get his things and he is going to run away to Sweaden, where he will save himself from war. Danby tries to explain to Yo that he will have to run his whole life from Cathcart and Corn and avoid court martial and prison. Yo ignores it. As he is leaving, Nately's whore comes out again and tries to stab him, but he runs off. And this is where the great adventure of Catch 22 ends.

I absolutely love this book!! It had some details of things that probably shouldn't be shared, but it was humorous and full of adventure! I love how the author brought Orr back and puts some careness into Yossarian's heart. Although, I wish he wouldn't leave me haning at the end, but at least he didn't kill off Yossarian. If you read this, you will dicover the real meaning, which has mant meaninsgs somewhat, of the title Catch 22. Anyways, again I apologize for such a long blog.
